DPRZ

Dprz, Dawid Przybylski is a Polish DJ from Scotland, who currently attends college for sound production and is part from a collective DJ group called Oneunder. We talked to DPRZ about what inspired him to make music, where his dream venue is to play, his biggest inspirations and more.

How did you first get into DJing?

“Through a friend, who got gifted a pair of decks, thought it was coolest thing ever, bought own pair a year later, passion and obsession grew and led to making own music. My love of music stemmed from my dad, from a young age, he put me on electronic music like Above and Beyond and Chemical Brothers, a lot of interests stem from that, producing and making music became my creative outlet”

What inspired you to start mixing ?

“First ever event I went to, Boo at Bongos in February 2023, seeing the crowd and the energy, I instantly knew this was what I wanted to do

What do you listen to when not DJing?

” I listen to a lot of Fontaines DC, rappers like Don Toliver, Travis Scott, Future, etc. But my favourite DJS are Kettama, Mall Grab, Kyle Starkey, IPC, Dart, main phase, DJ heartstring, Silva Bumpa, Sam Alfred, Xclub, just to name a few”

Do you remember your first set, how did it go?

“Yes, It was for Mono events in room 2 of Cabvol, got it through a friend I met at college, managed to get 50-60 of mates there, couldn’t of asked for a better first event, ideal debut”

What artists, genres, scenes shaped your music the most?

” I was really big into trance when first started out, and then I leaned more into the garage and hard house scene, it inspired me to make similar things myself”

What’s been most your most memorable gig?

“It was at the 1990 venue in Glasgow show, Seah was headlining, who is a producer from Perth Scotland, it was my first ticketed event and I made 200 pound, it was weird because it was my first time playing to complete strangers, but they seemed to enjoy it and it got us noticed by another event company called Pedestrianism.”

Dream venue to play in Scotland?

“Definitely a sold out show in Liquid rooms.”

Dream collab?

“Interplanetary criminal or Silva Bumpa definitely, they are leading the garage scene right now and they’re production is amazing, they are my two favourite artists right now for sure”

What’s been a defining moment for you?

” My first gig definitely, having people actually come see me play was something like, if I could do this more often it could be a lot bigger than it is now, from that moment on I considered this a career choice rather than just a hobby.”

What do you think the Edinburgh music scene could use more of?

“More event spaces, Edinburgh could definitely benefit from a bigger venue in town, a club that holds more than 500 people, in the thousands, would make so much money and grow an audience”

What’s next for you?

“I have a couple unreleased tracks I’m just sitting on, sending them out, testing them, trying to get labels, I will hopefully have more events planned towards New Year.”
